SAN ANTONIO CREEK
SOD TRANSPLANTING PROJECT
AUGUST 6, 7 & 8, 2010
The Los Amigos de Valles Caldera is sponsoring a wetlands restoration project for volunteers to cut (dig), transport and place sod in a channel that is threatening to cut across a meandering loop of the creek. We will camp out Friday and Saturday nights at the San Antonio Cabin located near the creek in the far northern area of the Valles Caldera National Preserve. We will work Saturday and part of Sunday. Because of special activities on the Preserve Saturday, volunteers must be in camp by Friday evening or before 7 am Saturday morning. Access will be through the Sulphur Creek gate on the west side of the Preserve. It is a 45 minute drive (10.4 miles) on a dirt/gravel road from Highway 4 to the camp site. The road is passable by a carefully driven sedan with modest clearance.
If you are interested in volunteering, email Jack Crane at jdcrane@valornet.com for more information and reservations by July 29 at the latest.

Morton Bond Cabin Print
Los Amigos is very privileged to offer you a rare opportunity to own a print by well-known Western artist Gary Morton, and help restore the Bond Cabin on the Valles Caldera National Preserve at the same time. Gary made an extremely generous offer to Los Amigos. He painted a picture of the historic Bond Cabin, where he and his family have been staying this summer while they ran the cattle program on the Preserve, and he let Los Amigos make 350 signed prints of the painting to sell to raise money to help restore the Cabin. Get your order in soon before they are all gone!
A copy of the print is current hanging in the Bond House Museum in Espanola.
